POWERFUL PRAYERS ARE FOR THE CHURCH TODAY

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power.”—Ephesians 1:17-19

The Apostle Paul wrote two-thirds of the New Testament and prayed powerful prayers for the early church.  Since these prayers were for the Church, we can pray these same apostolic prayers for the Church today.

Ephesians 1:17-19 gives us the prayer that he was praying for the Ephesus’ church.  This is a powerful prayer that is still valid for us today.

The term, “the spirit of wisdom and revelation,” in Paul’s prayer is not to be interpreted as mystical.  “Wisdom” concerns practical, workable principles.  “Revelation” refers to clear perception and applicable understanding.  The Holy Spirit is the divine supernatural source of both.

The phrase, “the eyes of your understanding being enlightened,” literally means that your heart may receive the brightness of hope resulting when the wealth of God’s investment in you is understood.

Another powerful prayer we can pray is found in Philippians 1:9 -11. “…that your [our]love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you [we] may approve the things that are excellent, that you [we] may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.”

Although these are only two of the prayers that the Apostle Paul prayed for the Church, through these we can see the love he had for the Church.

As you meditate upon these powerful truths, your faith will grow and as Jesus said, “…with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19: 26).  Also, it is important that when you pray—to pray the Word of God because He watches over His Word to perform it.

Prayer—Father I thank You that You are the source of my wisdom, revelation and enlightenment.  I ask you to help me to understand the wealth of Your investment in me, in Jesus Name. Amen.
