A New Creature

Your identity is who you are.  When you accepted Christ as your Savior your spiritual identity changed.  Instead of being spiritually identified with Satan as your master, you have a new master, Jesus.

The old identity is ruled by a sin-conscious mindset that has thoughts of guilt, death, failure and inferiority; although your spiritual identity changes the moment you are born again your mindset must be renewed.  The Apostle Paul said, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God ” (Romans 12:2).

God’s Word says that you are a new creation in Christ Jesus and that He has made you approved, accepted and in right relationship with Him.  His Word instructs you to put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and to be renewed in the spirit of your mind by putting on the new man that was created according to God in true righteousness and holiness. (See II Corinthians 5:17-21; Ephesians 4:22-24)

How are you to put on a spiritually new man that you do not know?

You do this by getting to know this man named Jesus.  To get to know Jesus, and to be His disciple you must discover what He is like, how He thinks, how He speaks, and how He acts by reading and studying the scriptures; and when you do, you will discover that you will begin to think and act differently.

I have put together a list of scriptures that I use in my personal reading and study.  This list is not exhaustive; but, it will help you begin to understand your identity in Christ, and as you meditate on these scriptures, and confess them aloud, you will begin to think and act just like Jesus.  God spoke the world into being; likewise, we follow His example by speaking.

“My son if your heart is wise, My heart will rejoice—indeed, I myself; Yes, my inmost being will rejoice, when your lips speak right things.” –Proverbs 23: 15, 16
